Admittedly, it’s been some 20 years that I have read these but DD has been tasked to compare/contrast “language” within these books. Has anyone done this before that could give me some pointers so I don’t look a complete idiot! Xx

With all the best will in the world, why would you look like an idiot? It's your daughter's homework and should be based on her thoughts.

SweetMary · 21/03/2024 21:51

She’s asking me to help her - that’s why - other then saying “they are both written in English” I don’t know how to support her.

The best way to support her would be to sit down with her and read the texts together. And let her work out some answers.

All you need to do is ask a few questions - why did he choose that verb, and not a more obvious one? What's that adjective doing there? What else do you associate with this word or that word?

NewName24 · 21/03/2024 22:47

I'm with @Pebbles.
This is your dd's homework, not yours.

If she needs help to focus, then the questions you pose should be all around what was talked about in the lesson, and previous lessons and how that relates to the question asked.
Giving her the answers isn't helping her long term.

Presumably she's been studying these books or at least read them? Get her to pick a couples of passages from both and compare the language.

Is it extracts or whole books?
If extracts do a table and highlight any similarities/differences in context, language and theme.
