Errrr, me again.....!

We're stuck on another one now. Have worked out that total of the 6 numbers is 48, and the numbers 7 and 9 must each occur at least twice, but then if 8 has to be the middle value, that would be a modal value as well, and also the range would not be 6???

Thanks in advance!

8 doesn't have to be one of the 6 numbers for it to be the median...

The range being 6 is going to help here. Essentially write the number in a line, a/7/7/9/9/b. To work ot a and b, use the range, with two values the average to 8 (5 and 11)

Januarydontbecool · 07/01/2024 17:37

5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 11

Or any set with 7, 7, 9, 9, in the middle with one number equally above and below, eg 4 & 12, 3 & 13

I’ll write out my working next.

Aha!!! Thank you both so much. Was misremembering what "median" meant.

No need for my working, then 😀

I overlooked 7, 7, 7, 9, 9, 9.

xxxxX10 · 07/01/2024 17:55

Not the last one (another 7 and 9). Remember the range has to be 6

xxxxX10 · 07/01/2024 17:58

Or 4 and 12, 3 and 13 etc.

xxxxX10 · 07/01/2024 17:59

So just 5 and 11

Thank you all, glad it isn't just me that gets confused by this stuff!
