How much should we help with homework?

Question for the teachers out there.

So how much should we help him with it?

I'm not sure how much we should help with English, should we be correcting all his grammar and spelling or is it better that the teacher can see the areas he's weaker in?

Right now we highlight any spelling mistakes and get him to look up the correct spelling, but we've left the grammar alone thinking this would be something he'd be taught in class.

So should we do more, less or is it just a case of whatever we're comfortable doing?

Somehow managed to delete the first part of the OP.

DSS is 12 and doesn't get a lot of homework, Maths isn't an issue because it's all done over Mathswatch and any questions I can't help with get a reply from his teacher with an explanation.

I'm just not sure about English, and also the odd bit of history or geography when it comes along. For example a geography project he had to do about renewable energy over lockdown didn't come with any guidance on format, length, etc. I slipped straight into uni writing mode and probably had him going into way more detail than necessary.

Not a teacher but from High School I've just let them get on with it unless they've asked for help and if they have asked for help, we've tried to show them ways to find the help for themselves.
