DD stuck with a French word. It's on a Twinkl download sheet she was given but google isn't helping. It's rock pools and she has to draw a lampotte

Any clue? I'll try to put a pic up. Thanks!

limpet?

NonUrinatInVentum · 25/03/2020 12:07

They're limpets

Frenchfancy · 25/03/2020 12:09

There is a spelling mistake somewhere. Lampotte doesn't exist

Frenchfancy · 25/03/2020 12:10

Limpet is a patelle

TedsFederationRep · 25/03/2020 12:12

Lampotte is a synonym of patelle. It isn't used often.

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 12:14

This is on Wiktionnaire Maybe archaic?

I wonder if it from a local dialect. It's not in my big dictionary. Seems strange to teach words that even native French speakers (I'm not but my Dds are) don't know.

TedsFederationRep · 25/03/2020 12:18

That would be about right.

I speak Québécois, which can be pretty archaic.

armwrestler · 25/03/2020 12:21

it's not in my big dictionary either and I wondered if it's a local word / old-fashioned word too. eg Spoot isn't in the OED but it's a razor clam where I come from.

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 12:23

I have a friend who was an EU parliament interpreter. She said the fishing committees were a nightmare as nobody called the fish by the names on the list.

Sausagis · 25/03/2020 12:40

Thanks all. Limpet sounds good. I'm not sure about this home educating malarkey - apparently year 4 maths is pushing it for me!

It sounds as though you are doing just fine Smile

Yesterday, my little niece was determined to bake scones because it was on the list of tasks provided by her teacher.

What was the teacher thinking? My DSis didn't even have all the required ingredients. However, after some improvisation, LN made her scones - using frozen pieces of mango (no dried fruit in the house) and out-of-date flour - and proudly sent me a photo.

I've told her they look delicious.Grin

12yo dd has done German, French and Russian today. Meanwhile, I can't remember English...

Is it September yet?
