Questions about history source questions - GCSE

Is there anyone that can help with history source questions please?

There seem to be different types of source questions - some ask about the usefulness of a source, some about its reliability etc. amd some about comparing sources. My son is confused about the differences between them. I wondered if anyone had a broad guide or can explain about the differences and how to answer these questions so I can understand this and try to help. Thanks very much.

That's a pretty broad question! BBC bitesize revision and Mr Allsop History on YouTube might be a good starting place to try and understand the differences. Here is one of his videos:

Iirc it is about the relative emphasis you place on context, factual accuracy, potential bias of viewpoint and how that may colour the way the facts are described and choice of wording and media.

The trick is to weigh up the value of the different sources and assess which one is more reliable. Use the word 'because' for extra points.
I split into primary sources (things people saw or experienced - this could be an interview with an older person, a diary or a written eyewitness account) and secondary sources (eg books containing people's opinions about the primary sources, newspaper reports). On the face of it, primary sources seem better because they're more likely to be accurate but they can be skewed by other factors (eg poor memory, propaganda). Secondary sources will take those issues into account but it's still opinion not fact.
