Maths homework year 7

Hi
Dc has homework but we don’t understand what the answer should be to the question
Are we supposed to put the answer as a - or literally as it says change from £1.

Can't see the whole worksheet but that looks odd as its more than £1.

Are you sure he has written the correct amounts for each item? If so, it looks like a mistake on the sheet.

Yes that is the question. I have checked the amounts and he has added them up correctly and written down the right amounts. It seemed weird to ask a question where the change from £1 would be a negative.

I would say there's errors on that sheet as you wouldn't get change or be able to buy all the items in several cases.

That’s what I thought. It totally baffled me. Thank you all. I thought I was missing something obvious.

The sheet is correct as printed so I assume he has to make a choice of what he can afford and work out the change accordingly?
I would think it is to easy for year 7 without a twist in the tail?

Are you sure that's year 7? My DS is in year 7 and his work us far more complicated. He would gave easily done this 4 years ago.

To add you would write the minus eg -8p etc. I thought this would have been a simple concept to understand by year 7.
