you can do adding and subtracting in any order, as long as you keep the sign with the number.
So the two negatives make -18 and the two positives made +4, together makes -14.
Or you can do it in the order it's written: 2 and -8 makes -6, and then another -10 makes -16, and the +2 makes -14.
Or you can do it right to left: 2 and -10 makes -8, and another -8 makes -16, and then plus 2 makes it -14.
Or start with the -10 and put it with +2, to get -8, then another +2, to get -6, then with -8 you get -14 again.
Any order is fine, as long as the sign stays with the number after it.
Some teachers say you have to do it left to right, but it's not the case. You will get the same answer however you do it, as long as you do it properly (keeping the sign and number together).
