Don't know how kids are taught, but I would divide 500 by 100 (to get to 1%) and then multiply by 13.

MrsEricBana · 17/05/2018 17:07

Yes I think my dd would say if 100% is 500 then 1% is 5. So 13% = 5×13=65

MrsEricBana · 17/05/2018 17:08

I would do 500x0.13

ICantCopeAnymore · 17/05/2018 17:09

I'm a Primary teacher and we'd ask children to work out 1% first, then multiply by 13, or 10% and 1% x 3 and add them together. Whichever they find easier.

Haha, decimals are my worst. It's like my brain has a mental block! Teaching them is fun Grin

13% of 100 is 13
Times by 5 for 500 (13x5)
65

daffodildelight · 20/06/2018 16:25

We would find 10% first, then 1% and go from there adding the 10% and 3%
