  1. Draw and describe an object designed to decrease pressure.
  2. Draw and describe an object designed to increase pressure.

1 would be something that increases surface area. Those things people wear to walk on snow are the first thing that spring to mind. 2 would be the opposite, so something with a small surface area.

Stinkbomb · 22/04/2018 22:12

Like a stiletto heel!

jedenfalls · 22/04/2018 22:15

2would be football boots with studs

mineofuselessinformation · 22/04/2018 22:26

1 a syringe

Spam88 · 22/04/2018 22:28

Ooh yes a syringe is a good one. I was thinking a drawing pin for the second one but actually it works for both I suppose.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 22/04/2018 22:29

2 could be a hammer?

DrWhy · 22/04/2018 22:31

Ooh, that’s interesting. I immediately thought of the internal pressure of an object so number 2 would be something like a bicycle pump but o couldn’t think of an example for number 1. Reading other replies I think they are indeed looking for something like snowshoes for the first one, that spread force and like a drawing pin for the second where force is concentrated.

1: a polar bears paw
2: a sharp knife

samsonthecat · 22/04/2018 22:59

A drawing pin for both. The flat end has a large surface area so low pressure, the pointy end small surface area so large pressure.

Oh thanks all - I thought of a pump for no. 2 - but thought that might be too obvious Confused - but good ideas, thanks... 😊
