I’m just wondering what’s normal for year 7 History. I’m a History graduate so perfectly able to help but ds’ homework seems both challenging and excessive. He has the same teacher for English and History and he sets a big written homework in each subject every week which is stressful in itself. However he can usually cope with the English alone.
This week’s history for example is about assessing William the Conqueror and debating whether he should be charged with crimes against humanity. There are three sources to read, 2 from the 11th/12th century and one from a history book. For each source he has to answer 3-4 questions about whether it’s biased and what evidence is provided. To be honest that will take him a long time as there are 9 questions in total to answer. Then he had to come up with a balanced conclusion about William and then a full essay with paragraphs for and against him being a war criminal and a conclusion. I can see it’s going to take him forever and I’ll have to provide lots of support.
I wanted to know if this is a reasonable expectation for year 7 in terms of difficulty (I’m pretty sure the amount is too much - the teacher says it should take 1.5 hours. I think it will take longer, but in any case surely that’s too long for one subject?)
