Reading help for yr 1 mildly dyspraxic Ds

My DS has just been diagnosed with mild dyspraxia, he has poor core strength and some cognitive issues, however he is also really struggling to learn to read.
He is currently following the schools phonics program (he's in Year 1) however he is struggling and is slowly becoming disillusioned as his classmates are way ahead of him.
I've looked at wordshark, reading eggs and the oxford learning tree reading programs and wondered if any fellow mumsnetters could point me in the direction as to which one would be most suitable ?
Ideally I would prefer one which can be downloaded onto the Ipad and that he will find fun as I am worried he will loose his enthusiasm for reading.

I uses Hairy Phonics and Hairy Words apps with intervention pupils. Nessy is also widely recognised

Thanks Loll, by intervention do you mean children struggling with the standard phonics method ?

I use them within as a fun part of an intervention for children who need extra support with reading and writing. A problem with a lot of the apps is that they're American so not suitable. You also need to do some phonological awareness activities and games - things like rhyming, blending and segmenting.

It's the blending he seems to struggle with. He can read simple words but he struggles to understand for example that the letter e can have a hard e sound as in egg or can make a oo sound as in true.
He seems confused by phonics as he learnt his alphabet phonetically yet many of the more difficult words can't be sounded out and then blended phonetically.

Is he getting extra support within school?

The Hairy apps are about £2.30 each - there are 5 or 6 in total - phonics, letters and words. The children I teach really enjoy them and I find they raise their enthusiasm and confidence

He is getting a little help however he is in the private sector and they don't seem to be able to offer an alternative method at the moment.
I'm happy to help him at home until we can decide what's the best course of action for the future
