Just curious. DD1 probably spends 45 mins every day on hers (and it's clearly not enough as she's yet to score more than 3/10 on her spelling tests
). She's expected to do reading, spellings, spend allocated time on an on-line maths games subscription website as well as a set of topic based projects to be undertaken and submitted each term. She goes along with it and we have fun doing it (though I can think of so many others things I'd rather do with her), but most of my friends' kids don't have anything close to this expectation. Spellings also seem to vary massively between friends' children; dd has words like bridge, month, much, naughty, shirt. I'd understand it if she was clearly very able, but she's quite average I think. But perhaps that is what is expected of average in term 2? They group according to ability and she's somewhere in the middle.
How much homework does your Year 1 child do?
