Hi my dd has some homework regarding the crusades all of which is ok to do except the question of which countries were involved . I lot of the info she has been reading talks about the Christians v the muslims but not specific countries .
This is what she/we think so far

1st crusade - France

2nd crusade - Germany France

3rd crusade - England France and Germany

Childrens crusade - Germany France

We not sure which countries they fought against ( Israel ? Turkey ? Saudi Arabia )

Any help would be appreciated !

You're broadly right but this might help a bit.

The Holy Roman Empire (modern day Turkey) was certainly not best pleased with the Crusaders, and neither were the majority of rulers around the Holy Land (covering modern day Syria/Israel/Lebanon). some of the maps here will help DD in understanding the location

Richard the Lionheart went on Crusade with the French King, Phillip II. Before that, Louis Capet of France went on crusade with Eleanor of Aquitaine whilst they were still married. Eleanor was, of course, Richard's mother.

Richard's enemy was Saladin. He was considered a great leader by both the Muslims and the Franks - ie the Christians.
