7 yr old refusing to do homework

I have just had a massive row with my middle son over his homework, fed up of constantly battling with him over it. my eldest just gets on with it, occasionally a slight moan but that's all. I try and make it interesting by letting him do project work on the computer where possible but if he has to sit down and focus on something he just moans - we have spent all morning getting him to do a poster which he has finally just finished and it shows very little effort, and he still has his maths and spellings to do. Any tips on how to to deal with this??

Or maybe allowing him to deal with the consequences of not handing in his homework. I'm trying to take that approach, and although hard it will hopefully work

Maybe have a chat with the teacher - some children aren't ready for homework at that age and shouldn't be put off learning by it causing problems. Fwiw my mother is a Dr of Education who has studied homework on primary school children and found it has no benefit.....
