How much homework does your year 5 child get and how long does it take?
What sort of thing do they have to do?
Weekly we have about 1 hour of maths and 1-2 hours of literacy for children in the top set.

A set of 10 spellings, reading, mathletics, bug club, then literacy and numeracy homework on a Friday to be handed in Monday, which would be around 20 minutes each.

So spellings is literally writing each work 3 times so 30 words, reading is done before bed in bed, mathletics is 20 minutes twice a week(that time is set by me) and we sacked off bug club with the blessing of the school as he reads daily.

School is outstanding primary.

20 mins maths, 20 mins literacy per week- spellings for a weekly test, times tables for a weekly test and reading each day.

Maths 30mins x 2
Spellings x 16 - write out 3x and write words in at least 8 sentences (in other words, know the meanings)
Comprehension x 30mins
Either a Geography or History h/w x 30mins
Reading daily 20mins minimum
