Montessori - no homework - good thing or bad thing?

Hi all

My little one is about to start year 1 in a Montessori primary school.

Although I wouldn't have expected her to get much/any in reception, I am concerned that she won't get any going forwards as "it's not the Montessori way"

Are there any experts/experienced parents out there who can advise me/allay my fears?

Thanks

JGKMS

I think the research shows that giving homework at primary makes no difference to attainment.

However, having a parent who is interested in their child's education does make a difference. So rather than sitting down and doing a worksheet, just do stuff with her that will encourage a love of learning, and of books and reading.

Good thing! Even as a secondary English teacher I don't really agree with homework. Research? Yes. Exploring things you're interested in? Yes. Reading a lot? Yes. Writing independently? Yes. 'Finish x questions' or 'complete this worksheet'? No. I'm really not convinced hw helps at all.

Massively good thing. I don't particularly like the montessori approach but would welcome with open arms a no homework policy. I'm secondary trained and really don't see the point in primary years. Expand their.education in other ways :)
