Hello
My son has a new topic next term, it is about Woodland Creatures.
We have been to our local woodland, collecting leaves and twigs etc along the way. His teacher suggested making a model to take back to school, such as a slug farm (no real slugs) lol. But my son wasn't fussed on that idea. Any creative mum's out there have any tips that could help us out please?

What about a scrap book or a big collage with pictures and tree rubbings leaves and things hell find as hes going through

Does he want to make a model just not of slugs?

Can he build a small scale model of a woodland home? No living slugs/worms/ants involved.

I'd do a model of a woodland and add some woodland creatures - or stick to one creature and incorporate something about its habitat in the model (so if it was squirrels then have trees with nuts lying around and a tree with a hole in it for it's home!?)

Or just do generally woodland habitats and make sure you have the odd hole here and there and place playmobil animals in and around?

My dc have done little dioramas out of empty shoe boxes - either the box bit (bit look inside the keyhole) or the lid. Once we added paper mâché to the lid to make mounds and hillocks (it was a meerkat habitat!).

Make 'trees' by just getting small branches of a tree or a bush and sticking them to the bottom with plasticene and/or glue. Maybe look on google images of Pinterest for woodland dioramas.

There's an artist who makes landscapes out of food, which looks fab! Broccoli for trees etc. Maybe he could do a habitat but in a unique way to make it fun, like making the trees out of broccoli/pineapple tops or something, then take a picture of it.

Like this, but as a woodland.
