They were always a bit of a mystery to me too. Think all schools do it differently too which doesn't help. Have you asked the teacher?

Hello thanks for the information everyone no teacher has avoided the subject and keeps saying ds will learn in his own time. I just need to know what level he should be at. Thank you everyone.:)

My son is in year 1, also on blue, Ive been told he is where he should be for his age.

Ds is in year one, he's 6, turns 7 in November. He's on lime. I read to him every night and his normal village primary school does literacy (phonics) everyday. They do ten spellings a week and test them on those.

We read road signs and any other things.

He has always had subtitles switched on, on the TV (his choice - annoys me) and maybe this has helped? He can read everything and what he can't he makes a really good stab at. I explain all words I know/think he won't understand. I put unknown words in sentence context...so he gets the meaning etc.

His maths isn't good though. His mate in class is a hopeless reader but a genius at sums and maths etc. Ds gives up on adding or sums after two nano seconds.

AbleAble, in what way does your post help the OP?

According to this site pearsonschoolsandfecolleges

Blue is on track but given he is at the end of Year 1 if it was my child I would be more comfortable if they were a level higher. They can change levels so quickly at this age though.
