Didn't have these in my days...

So is it, for example - 1234
Th H T U
1 2 3 4

Or

1 has the value of 1000
2 has the value of 200
3 has the value of 30
4 has the value of 8 units

1234 = 1000 and 200 and 30 and 4

Really the teacher should have put an example of how she/he wants it laying out! (you're right with the th, h, t and u though!)

Sometimes I set these for year 2 class (though usually only 3 digits) and would probably lay it out as:

1000 + 200 + 30 + 4 = 1234

I blame my Head for that!!! I gave them to her before the start of term..and they still haven't been sent out for the parents (so don't always assume it's the teachers that are disorganised ;) )
