Grandson was up at 6am. He wants to build a robot
I'm not the most imaginative of people, especially at this time of the morning, so any suggestions/links would be much appreciated.

depending on his age. Tissue box body, toilet roll arms and legs, smaller box for head.

the arms and legs could move if you use those things that you use to fix documents together. Split pins?

Lego is your best bet, it can be as complex or as simple as you like and easily adapted.

He's just turned 11, ANTagony, and he's become interested in all things mechanical. We've done the cardboard box/foil/sticker thing when he was younger.

Now he wants to build a 'proper' one, he says.

Can you get hold of a LEGO Mindstorms set? Have you got loads of normal LEGO? Our EHE robotics team could let you have an old-style RCX controller and the software for it.

SDeuchars · 18/06/2010 08:34

In fact, you could come and visit us and see our set up. It is an easy train ride from Reading and there is an EHE FLL group in your area if you wanted to join in the competition.

PM me if you'd like direct contact details (although you can probably get them off the web).

We're tripping over Lego here, SD
I got loads for him from charity shops/carboots/freecycle.
I'll have a look for the Mindstorms set - haven't heard of it, but I'll look into it.
We'd love the RCX controller, if that's OK. Thanks.

Mindstorms is great! You can program it to do basic stuff. I dd loves it.
