HE and Degree studies

Is anyone managing to HE and study too?
I want to continue with my degree I started before grandson came to live with me.

What do you reckon? Is there any point? Is it a bit late now at 62?

It's never too late!!

I find that DS1 is becoming more independent in his learning as he gets older (he's 12), so I guess that if your grandson needs you less, then it shouldn't be a problem. DSs both check/mark some of their own work (where possible) and then talk through any problems with me, so that saves time too.

Thanks, Tinuviel. Grandson will be 11 in June but he's not so independent in his studies yet.
But I can get time to myself when he goes to his uncle for the day about once a week.

I studied for a dipolma of higher education that was flexible in time management and had a time limit of 2-5 years so I could fit it around the children - it took me 3 years. I'm planning on starting an OU degree at some point in the next year - as soon as I can save the money. I don't see why it won't be possible - but then we do autonomous learning - easier, I think, possibly, to squeeze in an hour or two a day to go and hide to do my own study. And I think it will be good for the children to see me studying.

Definitely never too late, I hope you find a way to make it work. I keep trying to persuade my dad to do the history degree that he's always wanted to do. And like Mrs Wobble says, what a fantastic thing to model for your grandson- that learning is not something to get over and done with and leave behind as quickly as possible, but something to take with you throughout your life. I'm on my second OU degree with a 4 and 8 yo (so not hugely independent) who I HE, and work part time (from home).
Not always easy but if you want it hard enough doable and even enjoyable.
