Should I start home educating dd?

Hi

my dd is ten - she has a place at good caring secondary school from september which I hope will treat her better than the primay school she currently attends.
She is a quite bright girl, who loves learning, she would read and learn all day if she could...

she has type 1 diabetes and the school are not meeting her medical needs and gets bullied a lot by a few particularly obnxoious kids in her year ..school are very reluctnat to do anything to help her ..

I have come back today from another disappointing conversation with the staff at school and am beginning to think that this situation is never going to be resolved ..so am thinking I might pull my daughter out for the remainder of the year ..and then see how the new school shape up...
Am I mad ?

Is there a chance that she may not want to return to school after a preiod at home with you?
I'm thinking of doing the same thing but for different reasons and funnily enough have just come off the phone with Dd's teacher who I was asking for some advice.
I think you have to do whatever feels best for your child but explain to her that this is a temporary situation, no matter how much she enjoys it!

Yes, I agree with shockers that you need to consider this whole situation with her. Does she want to come out of school? What do you and she see HE looking like? Will you go to home ed groups? Will you have a structure? How will it work? And what will happen if the school don't shape up? Or if she doesn't want to go to school after her time being HE'd? Or if you don't want her to go back to school? Is long term HE a possiblity if it looks like the best option?

thank you .. she does wnat to come out of school..she says she feels that she doesnt fit in at this school and that she is a "nuisance"because of her care needs..

To be honest my main worry is that she would find it harder to go back in september..but I am trying to weigh that against the continuing damage being done to her confidence and happiness...

She is very keen to start at the new school still.. I have explained that this would be a temporary thing..

She also is sometimes held back byt he other children in the class as she is pretty advanced for her age...

Sounds like HE is a good idea - and at least your DD is old enough, and sensible enough, to make the decision with you and be upfront about her feelings. And at least she knows you're there for her and are willing to take such a step to help her when she's struggling at school.

One of my cousin's DS has type 1 diabetes and he is happily ensconsed in his secondary school now, having been catered for well at his primary school.

It sounds like the school isn't doing it's job properly

I home educated my DD for the a few months at the end of year 6 as she was bored and unhappy. She then happily went to secondary school in the September. We had a marvellous time and she asked why I hadn't told her how interesting home education was before then because she would have loved to have done much more. If you go ahead with it you and your DD will really enjoy it!
