has anyone managed to home ed without coming to the attention of their lea. my dd is 3 1/2 and not involved in nursery or pre school ( and reading some of the posts on the preschool board about worrying that 3 year olds don't know there letters i am quite sure this is the right move for us!). i wondered how long people managed to slip by unnoticed?

Hi herbi
My kids were at school for several years. I deregged them in september (I took a letter into the school) and as yet havent heard anything from the lea.

Nothing, nowt, nada

Apparently my lea arent really bothered and dont interfere at all (which I find a bit too relaxed personally but Im not complaining!)

Im with you on the wonder about parents who enjoy competitive worrying about 3yo not writing their name. My dd is 5 and cant write hers (well she can copy it) - I am not worried about this at all!

We've never used school, and the LA don't yet know we exist.

I have no intention of enlightening them...

We were unknown by two LAs (having moved house when DC were 5 and 7) until DD decided to try school at Y5. LA doorstepped when she de-regged after one term (as intended by us). I told them to go away and have since dealt by letter (well, twice in 6 years). My DS is still unknown because our LA is under the (mistaken) impression that they have no duty towards him because he was never enrolled. I have disabused them of that notion while refusing to let him be "known". It's a good game

I had no contact in the three years we HEded, which was alright by me

Hi all. I deregged my ds1 in January and we have our first lea visit next friday.

Thing is.....we may be moving house - only 4 miles down the road but a different county so different LEA - does that mean that if we do move ds1 will not be known to them and therefore would not have to have visits/send reports in? Coz that would suit me fine

Yup. Under the current law, you are not required to tell the new LA that you exist.

A friend of mine sent a carefully worded letter to her old LA, saying "we are moving out of the area. I do not give you permission to forward any data you have on us". They did not like it at all, but she was totally within her legal rights. If you CAT me, I'll get her to give me a copy if she still has one, and I'll pass it on.
