Withdrawing from school (England), quick pointer to the Act please!

Please could someone confirm that in England it is necessary only to inform the school of the intention to withdraw a child, and not the LA?

Also can someone please point me to the Act where this is stated if possible. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I've just had a snooty email from the school telling me that DD2 is informing them that she is leaving soon (which she may well be, dependent on whether I find a new house to rent in this town or, better still, out of it). Apparently this was overheard with the staff member who deals with movers. They asked DD2 whether I had "written to the LA to imform them yet".

Thanks to your confirmation of the facts I've just replied and told them that when and if I decide to withdraw my DC I shall inform the SCHOOL not the LA, in accordance with the law. At present thats all they need to know!
