"Special school won't accept you?"!! said woman in shop am so proud of son's answer

As she was quite cocky and rude apparently.
My son went to shop to buy coffee standing in the q a woman tapped him on the shoulder and said
"Shouldn't you be on your way to school?"
My son replied that he was HE.Woman looked all knowing and said in rather sarcastic tone
"Oh, special school won't accept you will they?"
To which my rather smart alec but polite son replied
"I've never asked them to and actually am working towards attending Cambridge"
Woman
"......."
Cue one very proud son when home for 2 reasons
1)She just stood in shock and
2)He managed to keep the words "You cheeky cow" in his head
Had to laugh,thought maybe people were finally realising that HE was a real choice not just when the 'special school' won't accept you.
Any other He'rs had this in recent years?

I hated school, even though I did really well academically and have 3 degrees and have every intention of offering HE to DS if he feels it's something he'd like to do.

I adored uni though. that was great!

What a stupid, ignorant woman! Well done to your son for standing up to her. I don't HE my kids, but I can completely understand why people do. Different kids/families have different needs. It's pathetic that some people cannot understand this!

I am that rare beast - a teacher who thinks HE is a great idea.

He's 14 and has had a hard time with some kids who had been told that HE meant that he'd never get anywhere.He recently changed their minds when he looked up what he'd need to go to uni on a friends laptop.Shocked the h811 out of us when he said where but heyho.
He really handled this well only a short while ago he would have been really upset by this kind of comment hence proud mum and dad

My mother in law is pushing for my HE ds2 to go to a special school and it looks like the pressure will be on for ds1 to be sent to one too soon enough.

No, I used to be constancereader. I don't HE as ds is only two. I can feel it coming on though, I have heard that the local school is very keen on homework for those in Reception

Humphrey and singing, DS (4) gets three readings books twice a week (so six in total), and has done since September - his class began learning phonics in the first week. I think this is too much too soon. Needless to say, despite being quite a good early stages reader, DS is now losing interest.

HE at heart here, if not in practice at the moment.
