Stopfighting - the link doesn't work

julienoshoes · 08/02/2009 20:17

Here it is

Carbonel · 08/02/2009 21:49

My children are not home-ed but I beleive in every parent's right to do so if they wish unmolested - the govt should use its resources in tackling the myriad problems in schools not hounding home eds who do a wonderful job with their children.

I have completed the response

Stopfighting · 09/02/2009 11:16

Fwd from Mike F=W well known home educators/researcher and list owner

Do you want the LEA to:

Regularly hold "safe and well" checks on your child?
Have a right of entry into your home?
Have access to your child - possibly without you present?
Test of your child each year?
Be able to veto your right to home educate?
dictate what and how you home educate?
expect that you follow a national curriculum?
expect a local school to set your curriculum?

No?

Am I exaggerating the risk, well most of those things exist in various other
countries many of them even in Europe and if they believe they have a duty
to ensure that all children meet the 5 ECM targets, which iswhat they are
saying in the consultation, how else are they to do that without those
things I've listed above?

Am I scare mongering?

The only thing I wonder about is have I got you scared enough.

They will need the tools to do what they seem to believe they have a duty
and right to do.

THIS IS NOTHING LESS THAN THE THEFT OF OUR CHILDREN AND THE USURPATION OF
OUR PARENTAL RIGHTS!

They want to be the arbiters of whether our children are happy, safe,
productive and developing!

The European convention on human rights gives us two important rights:

Article 2 protocol 1 says that everyone has a right to an education and that
the authorities must respect the parent's philosophical beliefs

Article 8 protects our right to a private family life

But both of these rights are qualified by the authority's responsibility as
the child's protector of last resort. They are trying to extend in what ways
and for what reasons a child might need protection and this is how they will
try to get around the European law.

They are trying to say that home educated children are inherently unsafe and
at risk unless they are monitored for the 5 outcomes by the authorities.
Thus justifying the imposition of draconian measures to control and limit
our traditional rights to bring up our own children in our own way.

Do not loose your rights and responsibilities as parents - fill in the form
now - it only takes ten minutes

And suggest to your children that they too fill in the forms, if you have
relatives and friends who have a good grasp on the issues and are supportive
ask them to do the same.

it could be the most important thing you do this year as a home educator.

tinyurl.com/dcfs-consultation

It is absolutely imperative that people make their feelings known regarding
this review.

HUMBLE SUGGESTIONS

Do not feel obliged to simply answer the questions in the terms they are
put, rather use the opportunity to explain what you think both about the
process and the terms of the questions.

Some of the issues people might want to consider are:

The make up of the committee, with no one on it who has detailed knowledge
of HE

The insulting nature of the questions asking for example whether a home
educated child can be safe, thus they are suggesting that it might not
even be possible for HE children to be safe!

Whether we want so called support from the government offering as it would a
foot in the door to our lives along with the increased monitoring and
interference that it would inevitably bring.

The rephrasing of the wording of the Every Child Matters agenda from
"promote" to the ludicrous proposition that LEAs have a duty to "ensure"
that all children meet the 5 ECM outcomes.

Please take the time to do this it is absolutely imperative that as many
people as possible fill in their form.

tinyurl.com/dcfs-consultation

thank you - so fill in the form pretty please - if you want me to beg I'll
do it , just fill in the form.

If this email seems over the top - frankly I don't care if you fill in the
form because of it.

Love me or hate me but please fill in the form.

And in case there is any doubt on the matter,

I think it would be a really really good idea if every HE parent and child
would fill in the form.
