Hi - we made the leap!!

I have posted a few times recently about wanting to HE dd1, who has SPD and has dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

Well, 2 weeks ago we decided enough was enough and made the leap. I cant begin to describe the relief I feel!
In only 2 weeks, dd is sleeping again,is calmer, much less anxious and showing interest in her surroundings (she had become incredibly withdrawn).
We are deschooling at the minute, but dd is asking to do stories on the laptop/play on Education City etc -amazing to witness.

I know it is early days, but we are loving it. I have joined the local HE yahoo groups, as well as a couple of others. I have to admit to feeling a bit ovewhelmed with getting organised, but it is nowhere near as stressful as what we were going through before.

Just wish I had done this earlier!

Keep on discussing how it's going. Let yourself react to the great stress you have been under, observe how it shows itself. Same for your DD.

Congratulatulations!!!!

Well done, and I'm glad your dd seems happier already. Don't pressure yourself to "organise" things, you can see how things develop over time and will probably try different things with varying success.

Oh and don't worry if dd (and you) hit a bad patch - as Milou says, the stress can come out in all kinds of ways, almost like people grieving who seem to be coping just great while they sort out all the practicalities, then hit a slump when things "ought" to be setting back to normal. It may not happen of course, but don't beat yourselves up if it does.

There's hopefully plenty of people both here and in rl groups who can give advice if you feel you need any.

Funnily enough, I hadn't realised how stressed I had been until I read your responses. Maybe that's why I feel utterly exhausted at the moment - it has all caught up with me. I suppose 3 years of school battles have taken their toll on dd and me!

I can't tell you how amazing it is to hear her laughing again.

I hated the time when our children were at school. It was so stressful for me, watching them so deeply unhappy trying to cope.

Whenever someone says that home educating children musty be very difficult, I always respond, "No sending three unhappy children to school is so very difficult. Our lives since we deregistered them, have been transformed, happy people live at our house now"

That is so true, Julie. The atmosphere here is more relaxed now and I feel so much calmer.A huge weight has gone from my shoulders.

People have said to me "How will you cope with dd at home all day, every day?" Apart from the fact that she is a pleasure to be with, I can't really explain to them how hard it was to cope when she was at school. I thought about her and worried all day. After school, the tears and meltdowns would start , not to mention the nightmares and insomnia she suffered.

I know it won't always be easy, but I don't think the bad days at home could be anywhere near as awful as the school days.
