Deregistering question

We are going to HE ds from next sept when he should start secondary school, we haven't applied for any schools. Do I need to contact the LEA or just wait and see if they contact me, the HEs I've met locally have all either HE'd right from the start or have deregistered from school. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this situation.

As I understand it, as long as your child is not registered at any school, you don't have to do anything.
As you haven't applied for any school, you should be fine.
HOWEVER
with the 'Children Missing Education' directives from the DCSF, you may find someone comes along and makes enquiries as they may have your child down as 'CME' after Sept.
If that does happen you should just tell them that your child is being home educated.
You'll then probably (but not always) get the LA following this up with an enquiry about the home ed you are providing.

If I were you I'd wait and see if they get in touch with you-I can't yet see any point in contacting the LA myself.
