does it takes loads of time to organise home ed?

am tentatively thinking about this subject again, after a good friend said she was seriously going to give her ds one year at school then decide school or home ed. I don't think i would be brave enough to even mention it in RL unless i knew others were interested! DS is only 3 just now so plenty of time i guess. as an ex-teacher i know that the actual work that got done in school takes up very little of the time, the rest is all wasted on organisation, bad behaviour etc etc. i am not worried about how long it would take each week to educate my kids. However, if i were to do it, i would like to do it well. My worry is that i would have to spend hours on the internet, planning and getting resources etc. rather than actually spending time with them or actually getting any housework done!

I think it depends how you want to go about home ed - if you want it to be structured, then you could find yourself getting bogged down in that side of things (although there are places where you can get a whole curriculum in one go, if that's what you want). But I think many who HE from the start just carry on from what they have already been doing with their "pre-schooler", which generally doesn't take that kind of planning. Even if you do find you need something, then tracking it down together can be a "learning experience" anyway!

Hi horseymum - just read your other thread too. Have a look at www.sonlight.com, I know quite a few people who use / have used this. I think it's quite useful while you're new to HE, before you have confidence / experience to shoot out on your own.
