Not sure which category to put this and this seemed the closest to what I was after.

To cut a long story short, my soon-to-be-ex-DH walked out on me and the DC a few months ago. It wasn’t a nice break up and he seems to not care about seeing the kids.

DC are age 4 (just) and 18 months. I’m English, he’s polish. He was speaking to the DC in polish and I speak to them in English.

I would like to keep them exposed to polish as I think having a grasp of a 2nd language is a useful skill to have. I have a basic grasp of polish; mainly concrete day to day, what I did last weekend, where we will be going on holiday and can do food shopping and basic conversation but I am in no way able to converse with my kids in polish (plus it would feel wrong).

I need to develop a longer term plan to get them proper exposure but I thought I would make a start and find some TV they can watch and listen to.

I’m after polish kids TV programmes available in the UK, ideally for free, but any suggestions are welcome.

I have found “Świnka Peppa” on YouTube which is about the right age, “Koszmarny Karolek” which is a bit too old but something I’m keeping at the back of my mind, and “Za duzy na bajki” on Netflix but I feel they are a lot too young for that. I know there are other things I have randomly come across on YouTube, such as “bajki dla dzieci TV” channel which is educational with a boy called Karol (NP Karolek i jesień, i Karolek i pierwszy dzień w szkole podstawowej) but ideally what I’m after is a list of series, channels or individual programmes or films that I can search for.

Cunning linguists might be a good topic to post in.

I don't have ideas, but just wanted to say it's amazing that you're encouraging the second language.

Are there any polish groups near you? Not necessarily for kids but cultural maybe. Might be a way to meet other kids for polish playdates.

I'm not about to go digging but having just checked what we're watching right now, "Thomas and Friends All Engines Go" has Polish audio on Netflix. There are 52 episodes and it's aimed at the same age as Peppa. This is not the same TV series as "Thomas and Friends" (which is not available in Polish, having just had a quick look).

If you select "language and subtitles" you can see whether there's a dubbed version of any program on Netflix (under "audio" not "subtitles" so keep scrolling past the subtitles section).

If you set up a new Netflix profile and change your language settings on that profile to Polish then any with Polish audio will automatically play in that language. We've done this with our second home language.

I'll try and check as we drift through various Netflix shows this week and post any more I find.

Ok so I did go digging a little bit after all. 🤣 Things I've found on Netflix for you with a Polish dubbed version:

Paw Patrol
Dinosaur Train.
Lego City Adventures
PJ Masks
Fireman Sam
Wild Babies (nature documentary for kids)
Our Planet II (nature documentary)
Octonauts
Lego Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu
The Magic School Bus Rides Again

@AnnaBegins good idea about cunning linguists. I will leave here overnight and see what responses are and move if needed.

4 year old already has a decent grasp of polish, I would say truly bilingual at the minute, but understandably, and unfortunately, that ability is going to decline. I just want to do my best to keep it going. It would also be good for 18 month old who has several polish words. It’s part of their heritage. I don’t want to take it from them just because of the way things have turned out.

I have found a polish Saturday school about 30 miles away which is on my radar for later on. I will have a look into if there are any local groups. Thank you.

@SisterMichaelsHabit Wow! Just wow! Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.

Also thank you for the information on how to use Netflix properly.

This will be a bit hit and miss, some things are not available in the UK. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but this website is entirely in polish so a few pointers;

  • If its not available you will see this: Z powodów licencyjnych materiał jest niedostępny w Twoim kraju.
  • You will need to watch the reklamy (advertisements) unless you want to pay. After pressing the play (odtwórz) button, choose oglądaj z reklamami to watch for free.
  • If the odtwórz button turns into kup dostęp you have to pay. This is ok if you want to do this, but be careful you do not pay for something that is in english.

Hope this helps!

@szscesliwedni this is excellent. Thank you so much. Appreciate the effort you put in to pulling this list together.

We just tired baw się słowami - even I could follow what was going on. I am 100% going to be watching this with the DC because I learned a few new words too. It’s almost as big a hit as Dino pociąg which was mentioned the other day.

YouTube has quite a lot, it helps to search in YouTube for the titles in Polish language, for example:

Curious George - Ciekawe George
Thomas and Friends - Tomek i Przyjaciele
Postman Pat - Listonosz Pat
Fireman Sam - Strazak Sam

Disney+ has LOTS of their big titles dubbed in Polish, particularly their movies, but also their TV shows. We watch Winnie the Pooh and this newer one called Elena of Avalor. It’s difficult to search Disney+ by language, you can only click through and change language to check if it has polish. Instead, you can search here, filter by Polish audio and genre: https://uk.flixable.com/disney-plus/genre/series/kids/?min-rating=0&audio=pl&min-year=1920&max-year=2025&order=rating&mobile=1#submit
