Home education support thread

A positive thread for parents who are home educating, those considering home education, and all others who want to contribute to the discussion.

But taking as a starting point the fact that Home Education is an equally valid choice, taken by parents for a variety of reasons, and is not illegal, immoral or fattening....

Isn't it just, I started another thread asking HE'ers to put on there what their children had done/learnt today to show undecideds what can be done. But nobody else has added to it .this

Stopfighting · 25/01/2008 20:32

I've just added to it

emmaagain · 25/01/2008 21:18

(I can't add on that what did you do today thread, because I don't have my family's permission to share their doings on the internets... )

Bump.

DS2 has been doing the Wii and we went to the library. He decided he would come in rather than sit in the car. Chose some books on gambling!, Lewis Hamilton, iPhone, stormy weather, Star Wars. I said he didn't have to read them, just have some books which were his sort of topics.

Discussion about how I have a grouse and need to do 1 or 2 errands each day or couple of days and we need to find a way to do this.

Frankendooby · 04/02/2008 14:47

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 23:16

I found a book today, (over 20 years old) in a second hand book shop, that has 375 scientific experiments to do at home with household items. It also gave the scientific why's and wherefores. A brill find.

Julienoshoes · 04/02/2008 23:35

Have you found the Krampf experiment of the week?
You sign up here to get an experiment sent to your inbox each week;

-with that and your science book you could en up with another Einstein in your house Discoverlife

discoverlife · 05/02/2008 11:32

Bumping for anyone who would like advice about HE, separate from the more general debate. And reminding everyone that this thread is about being positive about HE, not negative about schools....

nightnight

Saturn74 · 25/02/2008 10:56

Krampf is great - my boys love him.
And he is so sweet - I wish he'd adopt me!

Julienoshoes · 25/02/2008 17:12

On another public forum that I am on, one of the other long term home educators has created several home ed threads that we 'bump up' every now and again, to save us from saying the same thing over and over and to save interested people from having to wade through old posts. There are three main HE threads made for bumping;

1 How to deregister a child from school
2 How to find other home educators
3 Books on home education.

Do you think that would be useful here?

emmaagain · 25/02/2008 17:26

yes.

sorkycake · 25/02/2008 17:28

I think that's an excellent idea!
Plus a regular 'chat' thread where people know someone is going to be, a bit like the ante-natal threads have, when they keep having a link to the next chatty thread iyswim.

Playingthewaitinggame · 25/02/2008 17:43

OO, as a non Home-edder I agree, it will save you lot constantly repeating yourself! I am sure there are many lurkers who don't dare to post who are considering options who would find it useful. I have already found many of your threads extremely useful and will continue to lurk (and sometimes post in the right circumstances, wouldn't dream of barging into a HE-ers only chat thread) and the more info available the better. It is you "lot" I have to thank for really making HE seem like a viable alternative, without all the nec info you guys put up (and the fights ) I would not have even considered it!
