Ds has recently become home Ed and his school have notified the LEA, the welfare officer from the council now wants to talk to us. I’m happy to do this but just wondering is there certain information that I need to provide?

You don't need to discuss your decision with anyone. It is generally recommended to ask the LA to keep everything in writing, as some of them have been known to misinterpret parents' words and say the education is unsuitable, which can be stressful. If they want information about how you are home educating your child, you can send them a written report. You can get help writing it from experienced volunteers who will look at your draft and check you've included everything you need.

For now, all the LA should be asking is, 1) did the school push you into deregistering against your will and 2) do you understand that you're taking on full responsibility for your child's education and you won't get any help from the school or us. Some LAs try to push parents to provide details of plans at an early stage, which is inappropriate and not a legal requirement.
