Online Home Schooling

Hi Mumsnetters,
I’m starting a new thread on this subject as last thread I can find dates back to 2018.
My daughter in year 8 has been out of school due to high levels of anxiety and so I have decided to take her out of the school and home educate. She is convinced that InterHigh is the way forward tho the fees will be too much for us to take on. The alternative I am considering is my online schooling uk, the fees seem more manageable and I wondered if anyone can share their experiences good or bad with me so I can make a decision and get her enrolled ASAP. Although she has not been diagnosed with ASD we believe there are some issues that require an assessment although we have waited over a year for this to happen and she’s been referred back to CAMHs. If anyone has similar experiences and have found online home schooling to be beneficial, I would love to hear from you. Thank you in advance!

Hi there, we have made this decision this week .... year 8 girl with high levels anxiety... led to panic attacks this week so after Monday we have decided to withdraw her. We've not yet decided of this will be long term or a break and try a different school but we all need a break from the anxiety and emotions it is causing. I've got her using oak national academy this week as it's online and free whilst we make decisions and investigate a longer term solution. I'll be watching your thread to see what people recommend!

Hello. I have a similar issue at the moment. Not helped by the fact DH doesn't rate the teachers much at either Interhigh (we did an open evening) and My Home Schooling (we watched all the demo videos).

Searching online for more, but think these are the two main ones.

Sorry,
my online schooling I meant.

qwerty1972 · 20/10/2020 17:39

Keep looking around GreyBow. My daughter attends Net School and she has used BriteSchool and the Online College of Art and Design in the past. She now has a string of good GCSEs/IGCSEs/Level 2s. Online schooling has worked for us.

Thanks @qwerty1972 will check all those out too!

Have a look at these guys - www.facebook.com/ELCHomeEdHub/

They don’t offer qualifications but they run 6 week KS3 modules in English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, German and Creative Writing.

A weekly homework package and a 45 minute online lesson for £40 for 6 weeks.

My friend’s daughter uses them - tutors are friendly and the children are engaged.

They are expanding all the time. The ran a virtual school during lockdown as well which was fab - have local kids a sense of community from their homes.

Hi OP.
Just wanted to say we are in the exact same position. Year 8 DD who we have removed this week due to anxiety. We are looking at my online schooling and Wolsey Hall. My online schooling would be more social and has clubs so we are leaning towards it, the downside is classes don't start until January so at a bit of a loss as to what to do until then!

Mamamia2020 · 03/11/2020 06:02

We used Netschool for KS3 English and I really rate it. This is the only subject we use them for but excellent lesson and homework set and marked.

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 06:15

We use a combination of different online classes from different places. We used to use my online schooling, but I prefer this way as we can choose the exact classes and teachers we like. There's so many different online classes that have appeared since covid, so it's much easier to pick and choose.

Hi I have heard a lot about InterHigh and lady Evelyn as well.

I have only used The Online School during the first lockdown mainly because it was free and had online classes which was important as my Childs school just had them staring at screens.

I am not sure if they have the capacity to fully educate your child online however it may be worth looking at as a supplimentary resource.

@Caroncanta would you mind sharing some? I am looking for creative and fund maths abs english lessons not necessarily linked to the national curriculum.

GreyBow · 13/11/2020 09:29

Grrrr. *creative and fun

When would I ever type "abs" for my phone to correct to that? 😆🤷🏻‍♀️
