Hi,

I've been asked for teach Spanish to a 9-year-old girl and French to an 11-year-old boy. I have lots of experience teaching adults, but am a bit lost with children.

Does anyone have any advice/resources that worked well for them? Has anything worked well for your kids?

Thank you.

Hi,

Not sure how useful this will be but my kids and I are learning French together through Paul Noble's Unlocking French book. I'm finding that using flash cards is really holding their interest and keeping them engaged.

Because the book takes you immediately into learning full sentences, we're breaking the flash cards up into the sentence components and sorting them in different envelopes so the kids can then use them like little building blocks to make their own sentences.

So "J'ai reserve une table pour ce soir" could be broken down into maybe five flash cards but then you could interchange" j'ai" for a "vous avez" flash card or "ce soir" for "cet apres midi", if that makes sense. That seems to be working for us.
