Newbie needing info!

The secondary schools around here are mostly pants. If my dds (who are both dyslexic although have not been assessed as their current school haven't bothered) do not get into the 1 school in our area that is not infamous for bullying and violence, i would like to home ed, but i have no ideas how to go about this, or to what extent you have to educate your kids with national curriculum or towards GCSEs or anything!!!! Help! Please! It's not until Sept 2008 that they are going to next school, but i'm supposed to be attending open evenings now.

Have a look at the education otherwise website for lots of info re the legalities, then come back and ask lots of questions.

Thanks! Just read the legal bit - very interesting. I had assumed for years that i had to be qualified in some way to teach.
There are a few problems that would need sorting out, but i would have to wait until closer to the time, i think, before i would know what to do. For example - socialising (i think there is a thread going already about that though), trips out (bit strapped for cash, and dd3 will only be 1yr old still), and actually knowing what is suitable for their age (they will be 11 by this time).
Oh, and i would have to make special effort where reading/spelling is concerned. Lol...do i sound scared!!

Hi, I've only been HE'ing for a few months, but I would say there's no harm at all in arming yourself with all the facts and info sooner rather than later. Chatting with others who HE will help you get it all into perspective, etc. I know you say you hope your DDs will get into the good school, but in my opinion it probably wouldn't be the best idea to leave the decision and/or planning until the last minute.

It might be a good idea to go here, and click on Lincolnshire to email the local contact who may be able to put you in touch with others who HE locally and just check out your options a bit more. It can't hurt
