Meeting with school

Well we done it. Ds13 has not attended school. And so far (for all of 3days)it is going well. Ds is positive and happy he does not have to go back and even doing 'homework' with no complaints,however the nerves have started to kick in with me(mainly due to possible loss of his school friends) and I want to keep options open to return to school if he suddenly decides. I have explained to his school he is off due to anxiety. I have a meeting on Monday and I want to keep door open just incase. I know they will be against HE but is it likely they will allow us to have that time to see or will they force us to decide then and there?

I'd get a GP to sign him off sick (for two weeks?). Then it's an authorised absence during which time you can take stock and decide what is the best way forward.

If you want to home educate, you can home educate but you can't expect schools to allow you however much time to decide what you want to do.

Firstly, it's a school place which could be taken by another child. Secondly, it's a case of miss some school, jump into a topic behind having missed a few weeks, then off again maybe in due course for a while could lead to yo yo schooling which doesnt offer stability for your DC (I'm saying this as I've seen this happen at least half a dozen times and none of the students ive known doing that have managed without it hindering social and peer relations or learning.)

If your child is happier being home educated then do that and make a plan for social sides of things. If you want them back into school there needs to be a plan for going back to school.

Is his year group at school full? If there are vacancies, you can always just re-register him there if home ed doesn't suit his needs. In that case there is no need to hesitate over deregistration, because it would be a reversible decision.
