Any home educators from Birmingham here? I want to identify a place I went to once.

It was about 17 years ago. An organised event with the home ed group. It was about 1 or 2 miles out of the city, 3 at the most. There was a lake and a long single story building that was some sort of art education/craft place. It had lots of window s and was all a bit wild and jungly, I'm not sure if it was a public place or not. It definitely wasn't someone's home though. Does it sound familiar at all?

Sounds like it could be the mac? Midlands Art Centre, in Cannon Hill Park?

EduCated · 08/09/2017 19:56

Possibly Sarehole Mill?

aurorie11 · 08/09/2017 20:03

I also think Cannon Hill Park wildlife conservation park

EnidNextDoor · 08/09/2017 20:17

I've been to the public areas of the Mac and it's not that. Do you have photos of the education centres? It's not the conservation centre.

Sarehole mill doesn't look like the place, I've never been but had a quick Google. Unless there are no pictures because it's not a public area?

The MAC was refurbished etc about five be years ago so it's probably quite different.

EduCated · 08/09/2017 20:31

Edgbaston Reservoir? Did you go as a child or adult?

EnidNextDoor · 08/09/2017 20:36

I went as an adult but have a shit memory Blush.

Does the reservoir have an education bit?

It has some buildings around it, a sailing club, a couple of others from memory, the sort of places that have been. Rough several hands over the past decade or so

EduCated · 08/09/2017 21:01

*through

EduCated · 08/09/2017 21:04

Rowheath Pavilion? Defintely more pond than lake though.

EnidNextDoor · 08/09/2017 21:05

Ah so it might be impossible to trace if it looks different and has had multiple owners and uses? Oh well it was worth a try. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Not rowheath pavilion, although I have to ask was an episode of Sherlock filmed there? It looks very similar!

I wonder if it was Moseley private park? There is a building in there, one storey. Also, the church hall is just round the corner on Chantryrd/alcesterrd.

EnidNextDoor · 08/09/2017 22:24

I can't find a picture of the building Kings but why have I never heard of this private park? It looks beautiful.

The place I remember was not manicured, it had that wild look that places get when there are too few people available to look after it. The building was very light and had lots of big windows overlooking the lake.

Moseley private park is lovely! But the building wouldn't be that light and airy.
Could you get to the lake from the building that overlooked it? I'm wondering about Highbury park, and the buildings belonging to Uffculme, BCC, and Park View/Two Trees.
It also sounds like a scout hut or something, but I cannot think of any by a lake.
There's a crafts place down at earlswood lakes , but it's about 6-10 miles from New Stuff, definitely not 3max.

EnidNextDoor · 08/09/2017 22:52

You could get to the lake Yes, it was like a garden length away???

It was bigger than a scout hut.

Highbury park doesn't look familiar. I googled earlswood lakes but when i say craft centre maybe ive been a bit misleading. I dont mean where people sell their crafts, I mean like a classroom for groups to create craft, paintings, that sort of thing.

Can you remember something you saw on the way. It might help determine the direction.

senua · 08/09/2017 23:31

Moor Pool Hall?

BackforGood · 08/09/2017 23:41

Martineau House ?

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2017 23:44

Birmingham BotanicL Gardens?

KingsHeathen · 09/09/2017 09:00

There's a gorgeous studio type building, lots of light at the botanical gardens... but they're really not unkempt and wild!
Martineau is much wilder (particularly 17 years ago!) But I cannot think of a building in there (it's been some time since I visited though)
Moor pool is v like a village hall, so huge vaulted ceiling.

KingsHeathen · 09/09/2017 09:01

Is there a lake/pool at winterbourne gardens? As they do a lot of art courses, so i assume they have a good studio type building.
