Is HE possible when single parenting??

I really admire you lot for home edding your children. I have had it in the back of my mind for about a year now and would really like to do it.

BUT

Am a single mum, only working 5 hours per week but that's at DD's school and the income from that is very much needed. I have no one who would be able to look after DD while I went to work (an hour per day). I can't afford to give up my little job, so is there any hope at all of me being able to home educate?

FWIW I know my family would support me by helping to educate my DD on things they sort of specialise in, but they all work full time.

Just need your thoughts / similar experiences really. Oh by the way, I have heard there's a HE group in my town, but I'm more familiar with Mumsnet so thought I'd ask here first!

I have read of some HEers using childminders in situations like these...about to start cooking dinner but will have a hunt later

Have you checked out EO yet - they have a support group for single parents who HE so well worth looking their website.

I have no interest in becoming a childminder, so that rules that out.

I don't think the school would allow me to flexi-school for the hour I'm there, as I'm only there between 12-1pm. My DD would in that case be having her lunch there, rather than being in class, and I am sure there would be a problem with this due to the school's insurance.

I could indeed use a childminder to have her for the hour, but realistically, I would then only really be working to pay for the childminder so would be pointless. This job is paying off a debt so I really can't do without any of it at the moment.

I have had a good look at the EO website (and plenty of others) and it seems there is a Yahoo group for single HEing parents - I think I will contact the group owner and see if she can offer any advice. I will also try to find out the contact details for my local HE group and see if I can have a chat with any of them.

Meanwhile, I would be very interested to hear from any MNers who are HEing without a husband/partner - if indeed there are any!
