Talk me about your day

With a 4 yo. What sorts of things do you do? We do lots of arty and crafty stuff but sometimes she's over that in 10 mins, and even if it takes an hour there are still many more hours to fill!

Can you give me an example of your average day?

Let them do their own things with their toys. Talk to them. Draw some things and ask them what they are. Build with lego. Enjoy blowing bubbles. visit the part. Go swimming. Borrow lots of library books and read them. Just a few random examples.

What does she like doing? We do lots of gardening at this time of year, walks in woods, cooking/baking, simple science experiments, drawing/colouring/play doh (these are the major practical type activities).

Mine spend lots of time with their babies and playing with their play kitchen. Saying that, they are currently building a den upstairs and I'm being called to join in so best be going....!!

Yes we do all that sort of thing too, Tuck and Mums :-) I think I feel a bit guilty that there seems to be a lot of free time where she plays by herself (she's perfectly happy to), as though I should be always doing more. But they do need free play time don't they. I have these panics periodically!

He he, I think it's completely natural to worry that you aren't doing enough/doing too much and all of the other million and one worries that I'm sure lots of us have!!

It sounds as though she is really happy and having a lovely time

So she will grow into an independent adult who is happy in her own company and doesn't rely on others for entertainment - sounds good to me! I worry that we are doing too much with ours at the moment and not leaving enough time for free play lol

Play is the main way four year olds learn. If your daughter is happy with the play opportunities you are giving her, you are getting it exactly right!
