Book recommendations

As a newbie I am looking for something around how children learn and the best way to approach it. Either a generic book or something more specific for each subject.

The first books I read are the classic John Holt's accounts of how children learn and how they fail in schools and therefore how you can provide an alte
rnative at home.

They are called How Children Fail and How Children Learn. Also check out The Well Trained Mind and Charlotte Mason.
