Do I have to have an annual review round?

Im Heing now, an SEN child, I have been heing for a while, DC gets all the adequate education fit for the special needs (not the curriculum).

DC is 13.

I cant find in the law that says they HAVE to have a home inspection/annual review, and if they do, why do a million people need to attend, a ed pshych, liaison officer etc.

Ive nothing to hide If I need to prove DCs being educated to DCs standards and learning capability, but I feel its an intrusion or they don't trust me.

When they write to you about the next one, you can write back and say
"thank you for your letter. According to the 2007 guidelines for LAs on Elective Home Education, there is no expectation that LAs will undertake routine monitoring. Since DS's education continues along the lines that you were happy with last year, please let us know the legal basis on which you wish to make further investigation into the education we are providing for him. Yours sincerely"

I can understand the truancy sweep thing as I see a lot of children out and about and wonder if theyre He'd or on inset or going to library/work experience/holiday or truants.

Annoys me though, I do show visitors and friends DCs work and they say DC does more work in a week that thiers do in a month!

If he has a statement then the LA's SEN team is obliged to hold an annual review of his needs and progress. You would be invited to attend but you don't have to (though it would be sensible to go to make sure they don't make decisions without your knowledge).

If he doesn't have a statement you won't have the review.

However, your LA's EHE team may contact you to satisfy themselves than an education is being provided. They may suggest meeting you (often a home visit) but as ommmward says you don't have to meet with them. You can just send a brief report so that they will know he's not a child missing education, and you can go on your merry way.

Ask them to clarify the purpose of the proposed meeting. Is it a statement review or an assessment of home education?

Im trained in educating special needs btw so theyd know im quite capable of the teaching.

they got back to me and said an AR is necessary as DC has a statement of SEN!

The fact Im trained to teach SEN and am DCs senco is not enough for them.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to let them into your home though, you can meet in a neutral place like the library.
Do they have a right to see your dc? some may be upset at being assessed by so many people.

Dc DOES get stressed seeing the Spanish inquisition coming round.

AR isn't about your ability to meet his needs though. It's about the LA having responsibility for ensuring that a child's special educational needs are being met, as laid out in the statement, and the formality of administration. It's not just checking that you (or school, if the child was educated in school) is doing what they should be for current needs, it can also highlight newly identified issues that they have to provide for.

But it's very clear that you don't have to be present at annual review if you choose not to, but then you do run the risk of the LA making decisions in your absence, which you may not want.

when she was in school they made decisions without my permission.

mostly wrong. Dc got worse. one of the many reasons shes now HEd.

Im not being 'precious' btw, I know sn limitations and especially my DCs limitations.
