Going back to school for secondary?

I'll try to be brief!
Has anyone here HEd for primary and DCs gone to high school?
My DDs started HEd years 2 and 3 so have been to school. DD1 would be in year 6 now. We have HEd for 3 years. Went to local high school for open morning yesterday with DDs - no specific plans to send them to school, wanted them to see what high school is like. High school seemed OK.
Not at all sure what to do. Should we be encouraging them to try high school? We're worried that there are things they'll miss out on if they don't at least try it - friendships, opportunities - plus if we stop HEd I can go back to work full time.
Help!!!!!!!

Hi. Do your dds want to go back? I have always given my children the choice. Dd2 has gone back to school for her last 2 years of high school and will do her gcse's.
She very quickly realised that some children can be really mean but has already made a couple of good friends.
It has to be what works for your family. I have 5 dc and only 1 at school.
Is there any reason why they couldn't try it and if it doesn't work for them they could come back to HE or would that not work if you were to go back to work x

Potentially they'll also miss out on bullying, exam stress and a sense of worthlessness.... I would leave it up to them.

I wouldn't send them just for the sake of it, but mine were HE'd through primary, and then went to secondary. I'm pretty sure they would have still had friendships and opportunities to do stuff if they'd stayed at home though :-)

Is it a school that's likely to be so oversubscribed that applying now is the only chance of getting in?

Hi, sorry I'm late to this but yes we are looking at secondary.
It may be a bit different though as dd is planning on attending a specialist school if all goes well.
If all doesn't go well we will continue to H.ed as the schools here are dire.

I think if the kids like the school you should give them a chance as you can always take them out if it doesn't work.

If you apply and accept a place you can always turn down the offer, even if it is last minute, it happens every year and causes lots of spaces and waiting list movement Grin

Our dd attended school until end of y3 she would be y6 now so similar age.

Oh, have nc recently but you'll probably recognise I'm a long time poster. x
