Hi. DD1 will.potentially being doing some GCSEs, beginning next year.
She has expressed an interest recently in 6th form, so will need 5 passes.
Anyway, I have trawled through loads of threads on here, some HE websites and distance learning sites and managed to thoroughly confuse myself Confused
Could anyone please point me in the right direction regarding the procedure, costs and so on.
I will be VERY grateful [smile ]

My knowledge is all secondhand but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

See if this wiki helps, and also consider joining the Yahoo group which is linked from it: he-exams.wikia.com/wiki/HE_Exams_Wiki

As I understand it, you will have to pay the following costs:

  • exam fee
  • fee to the centre where she sits the exam
  • costs of preparing for the exam (any study materials, tutors or distance learning etc)

Everybody seems to recommend that you start by identifying an exam centre where the exam can be sat. Then you'll know when it will be, and which exam board it is - which dictates which syllabus you should work to.

I guess if you go with a distance learning programme or a local tutor-led study group then they may be able to help you find an exam centre and perhaps also make the entry.

Good luck, organising IGCSEs sounds like a lot of legwork to me!

If you contact cambridge (details on the website) they will give you a list of centres in your area. The list will show which centres accept external candidates and you take it from there. Costs are paper fee and centre fee.

Oh, great, thanks very much to both of you. It certainly does sound like a lot of legwork, doesn't it?

I will have a look at that link now.
I feel like I have some direction now, thanks again.
