how to organize a study place

we will have to use our dining table in the living room.any ideas on how to organize supplies/space?

We have spent a year moving from one room to another as dh is self employed and works from home a lot.
Instead of using shelves, cupboards etc after complete chaos where organisation is concerned, I use clear lidded boxes.
You can stack them or move them round accordingly and if you need the space say over xmas you can put them all behind the sofa, on top of kitchen cupboards, in the garage etc.
My dd also has a bag, just like at school where she keeps a pencil case and a couple of work books so she can take it anywhere in the house then. I find this bag in all sorts of funny places.
