Can someone advise on suitable study books.

DS is 9 years old and yr 4.
He's at the home today as he's been excluded for the day and this is becoming a tad too common.
Have put him on the waiting list for a local school as at the moment he goes to a ms school just over the border and he hates it there as he's getting bullied and the teachers can't handle him.

I don't need advice on stat assessment etc. I just want advice on how to make sure that he gets the best education when he's stuck at home for the day/s.

So i want to get him the complete NC, not just Maths, English and Science.
But there are so many different types on amazon and i'm swamped. Got some software cd's and it's been a hit and miss with those as some don't seem to work, others appear to have a virus.

He does do educational city but i want him to have some study books as well.

So can someone pleasssseeeee give me some recommendations pleassseeeee.

These are very good at primary level and cover a broader range of subjects. They are quite fun to work, not too boring, and explain things well. We don't use them as much now my DD is 13, but used to a lot at your son's age. All that is left is art, P.E etc, and you can do those sorts of things with him without a book.

If the school are excluding him, surely they should be providing him with work and not leaving it to you to sort out? It's quite difficult to be picking up the pieces from a school as you don't know what he's covered, what he hasn't, what they are planning on doing etc. Might be worth trying to drag that info out of the school to get some continuity. Thanks musicposy. School are doing sfa in regards to giving him work. They have admitted that he's not getting anywhere near his potential. He hates school and i can't help thinking that he's doing his best to get excluded on purpose.

Would you be in a position to home ed him? As a trial maybe, then find another school if if doesn't work out? Sounds like you pretty much are already! Very out of order for the school to just exclude him and wash their hands of his education during that time.

I can at the moment when he's excluded, but it's when he gets older, it won't be long before he will be more articulate then me and that when i won't be able to help as basically my english is crap.
The school has mentioned in the past about putting him on half days and had a conference with his speech therapist today who said the same thing. So will ask the head next week.

The half day thing sounds good and like way forward for you both.

Btw my DD1 got much better GCSE results through home ed than I ever did at school, including As in some subjects I never did at school and knew nothing about! You don't need to be nearly as competent as you think!

But that aside, I do hope you can get some joy with the school - or can find somewhere where he is happier :)
