Any of you out there in or near thanet....I need help and advice!

Today is our first day of de schooling after a 3 month period of bulling that has made my 13 yr old dd to the point of not wanting to live.

After everything today is a new start for her!! xx

Not in Thanet but have been there with a 13 year old who didn't want to live anymore.

We deregistered him along with his two siblings, and home educated them all the way through their teens until they each took themselves off to FE college.
They are all at uni level now, and most importantly are happy self confident people....and it so lovely to see.

If I can help with any questions I will. Deschooling is very important for someone damaged by the school system and a good way to start.

Have you come across the "Teenage Liberation Handbook:How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education" by Grace Llewellyn?
Quite an old book now, written for teens,and American, I still recommend it as a read for teens and their parents.
It's what made me open my eyes to the freedoms and opportunities this way of educating can bring.

I'll bump the threads about finding home educators locally and books and websites about HE for you.

We just do not know where to start! We will not do anything straight away, probably January but I want to use the time in between to find out as much as I can!
Im worried sick that I will get it all wrong but I must admit I am finding it all rather liberating!! Just seeing my dd get up and smile this morning...I am so excited for her future.

Hello! I am not in Thanet but quite near. I have just retired as a teacher - primary then special needs secondary. I don't know what I could do but my daughter-who actually had quite a good time at school when there, is asking me about HE when she has children! Some children do much better at home.I think members of my own family would have done very well indeed being away from the school situation! I am very much in favour of doing what your child needs, not what "society" deems is the right thing. If you think of specific questions just ask!
