Can anyone recommend some material for writing and arithmetic to be used alongside mainstream school?

Hello lovely mumsnetters.

It's pretty much as the above title suggests. My cousin is concerned about the lack of "academic" work being done in the classroom since the transition to the curriculum for excellence, and would like to support her child in these subjects from home.

Can anyone recommend materials that would be suitable for a 7yr old to work through at home with her mother? She's particularly concerned about her writing and arithmetic.

We use Conquer Maths. I don't know how much a child could do after a day at school though.

Just a thought .. We use IXL maths. Loads of free excercises or £9.99 a month for a huge database tailored to their year group and broken down into sections, useful if there is a particular area they are stuck on.

For maths / arithmetic get her google an outfit called 'Teejay Publishers' who produce inexpensive maths textbooks that explain the concepts really well so parents can support without fear of 'doing it the wrong way'. You can buy books directly.
