Hi, we are thinking of HE for our child who is 7. Just wondering if there are any meet up/play/sports days in colchester ( or surrounding areas).We are very new to this and are starting after christmas ,hopefully and wonder if anyone in our area have had problems with removing children from state school to opt for HE.

Hi! I don't live near you but I've had a look on a national home ed list to see.

Apparently a good group to join is groups.yahoo.com/group/essex-he-e-group/ where you can get information about local activities. I am pretty sure there is something going on in Colchester. I think that with this particular email list, you have to get in touch with the moderator first and go along in person to a local meet or get together with one of the members in person before you are allowed to receive group emails. (Some groups have this policy because they want to reduce the chance of being spied on by journalists or Local Authority staff.)

Anyway, if you have any trouble making contact, let me know - I was in touch with someone who HE'd in Colchester a few years ago and I'm sure she could help.

There really shouldn't be any problems with removing your children from school.
The law is very clear. It is ALWAYS the parents responsibility to make sure the children are receiving a suitable education.....at school or otherwise

All you have to do to take back that responsibility from where you have delegated it, is to send in a simple deregistration letter.

Saracen- thanks so much i will defo take a look or speak to someone about the link you sent me . To be honest i can understand why they have guidelines to stop just anyone accessing information , some friends haven't been as supportive of our choice to HE but hey ho everyone's different.
Beckyboo232- our son is involved in lots of sport too, he loves to try everything he can ,lol. I am really encouraged by the fact that you HE and your mum is a head teacher. i have yet to broach the subject with my sons school and i'm nervous to say the least . Although as a family we are looking forward to the positive change .
julienoshoes- thank you so much for advice i will be in touch soon for lots more advice i'm sure . I am delighted that as a family we have decided to take this path and we're sure in a short time our son will be a happier ,more challenged and less bored little boy. We are all looking forward to our incredible journey ahead of us all .
