Education Otherwise Question

A very random question.

Does putting your contact details on E.O. as a "group leader/contact/whatever you want to call it" put you more at risk of becoming known to the LEA if you're trying to stay unknown?

I'm aware of a 'not on radar' contact/rep who's disinterested in dealing with their LEA, (owing to their confrontational negative attitude to h/e) who doesn't seem to have had a problem. :-)

seeker · 12/09/2012 15:35

Why would you want to stay unknown?

Scout19075 · 12/09/2012 16:40

Thanks, Just. That's my feeling, too.

Do you have to be a member of E.O. to be listed as a contact?

Scout I don?t know, but I?d have thought so, but ring them and ask.

Seeker, some people live in LEA?s who are vehemently opposed to h/e, behave unprofessionally and register h/e children as ?missing from education? knowing perfectly well that?s pejorative and incorrect.

It?s similar to having a child who?s won a 100% scholarship place to a good independent school, whose overjoyed parents then get harassed as being class traitors. Unsurprisingly they end up preferring it to be unknown too.

Some people prefer not to engage with people determined to take the shine of good things.

"Why would you want to stay unknown?"

Why would you want to be known when there is nothing to gain by it?

julienoshoes · 12/09/2012 21:45

and yes in answer to the OP, I know of a number of people who have been contacts in the EO newsletter, who have remained unknown.

and yes to be listed as an actual 'EO Local Contact', you have to be a member of EO.
However HE groups are listed and sometimes Local group websites, and the person who runs those, may not necessarily be an EO member

ditto

There is a possibility that in Wales not too long from now we wont have a choice. The WAG are proposing compulsory registration and monitoring.

My children are currently known but almost never contacted by the LEA (and if they do I shoo them away easily). If the WAG gets their way I will be effectively breaking the law if I refuse them entry to my home and my childrens 'safe place'

We will gain nothing from the WAG proposals but my sons mental health and behaviour has already been affected :(

Sorry for barging into your thread Scout!

Thanks Julie. I meant contact for HE group and realize my second post wasn't very clear. Blush

Thread, don't worry! Hijack away. Grin
