Forwarded message from Lizzie, a mum who has arranged a residential home ed adventure holiday week for home ed kids aged 8-15, to attend without parents. The price is very good compared to similar. It's probably too late for most people to go along this year, but if you are at all interested then PLEASE tell JCA now so they will be encouraged to offer it again next year and hopefully give us more notice. Even if you had received the original email about this you would only have had a month's notice. Unfortunately I had long since booked my dd onto a similar camp but we would have preferred the home ed one, and it's cheaper!

Hi folks,
This is a last urgent call for people interested in their children going to JCA at Condover Hall, near Shrewsbury next week, 25th August - 1st September. For more details see;
www.jca-adventure.co.uk/summercamp
I negotiated a price with JCA for home educated children of £189. This includes all activities, food, insurance etc.
My motivation for this was partly that my children went last year and had a great time but mostly that I like to get a good deal for home educators!!
Another important reason is that I found the dynamic of having a group of home educated children together who all got on irrespective of age etc was important to me. This sounds all wrong so let me give you an example!
The first week my 10 yos son went on one of JCA's standard weeks. We walked to his allocated room to be quizzed by another child with "What team do you support then?" This was before any greeting and we found it somewhat intimidating! My son was flummoxed and not knowing much about football named "Powys Panthers" our County's special needs team that his brother has played for!
Now there will be some kids who would thrive on this but, as the children involved dismissed my son for the rest of the week, he found it unnecessarily tricky. Having said that, and this is where JCA shone, the mentor's made sure that my ds still had a great time.
Anyway to get back to the point, when I asked JCA about a home ed discount for a group of us, they were interested, as they felt potentially there might be a lot of takers.
HOWEVER last year there were only 10 or so children and this year there are only 2 booked! One of these is a 15 yob (who's mother has contacted me) and one is my 11 yos! If anyone else has booked could they please get in touch with me by email,
[email protected]
The problem with such low numbers is that JCA are losing confidence and are unlikely to offer us a deal next year or indeed to let us have a home ed week. If you feel that you would like to go in future years, but for whatever reason cannot make it this year, it would really help me if you could email Sadie from JCA on
